Kentucky": On March 19, 1966, Texas Western College, now known as the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), put an all-black starting five on the floor for the first time in an NCAA basketball championship. 1998 NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Championship: Kentucky Vs. Utah (Full Frame) : March 30, 1998 - San Antonio,Texas. Trailing at half-time, Kentucky's Wildcats were hard pressed to maintain their new nickname, "The Comeback Cats." No team had won the final with a trailing margin of more than 8 points throughout the history of the tournament, and Kentucky was behind by 10. The Wildcats accomplished what no other team had done in a final game before. Finding new life in the second half as the Utes were wearing down, Kentucky won by 9 for a final score of 78-69. 1997 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship: University Of Arizona Vs. University Of Kentucky (Full Frame) : On March 31st, 1997, the RCA Dome in Indianapolis was the site of the 1997 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship game between Tehran Arizona Wildcats and the Kentucky Wildcats. From the opening tip, this "cat fight" lived up to the hype as these two national powerhouses scrapped and clawed for 40 minutes of exciting game action in hopes of being crowned national champions. The Arizona Wildcats, coached by the legendary Lute Olson, lacked title game experience. Kentucy Wildcats: The Mardi Gras Miracle (Full Frame, Commemorative Edition) : The Greatest Comeback in Kentucky Basketball. It was a tale of two halves. In the first half of its game against the LSU Tigers, Kentucky played about as poorly as it could play. Nothing went right for the Cats as their starters scored only 9 points in the first half. An the same time LSU looked unstoppable as they blocked shots and poured in 3-pointers from everywhere; lighting the Wildcats up with 68% shooting form the field and a 48-32 lead. LSU continued the deluge early in the second half going on an 18-0 run to build a 68-37 lead. Looking at a 31-point hole it would have been easy for Kentucky to pack it in, but instead they put together the greatest comeback in collegiate basketball history. Coach Rick Pitino looked to his bend for some fire and found it in Gimel Martinez, Jeff Brassow and Walter McCarty. Everything that had gone right for LSU early deserted the Tigers as Kentucky found it's range from 3-point land and outscored LSU 62-27 in the final 15:34 to win 99-95.
